In Search of Bagel Dogs

There is a small grocery store near the UW, (for those that know the area, next to the college in and Cafe Allegro) that used to sell Dr. Stein's Bagle Dogs (particulrly the Jumbo Smoky Polish Dog). I used to eat them whenever I could, often one for breakfast and one for lunch. The picture aabove is pretty representative of what the look like. I would hold the dog in one hand and a squeeze bottle of French's mustard in the other, setting the mustard down long enough to take a swig of milk, sweet iced tea, or Dr. Pepper. But one time I went to the store to buy one, not only did they get rid of the Bagel Dogs, they got rid of all frozen and refridgerated food to make way for more beer and potato chips. I have tried contacting the source, but they don't answer their emails. If anyone runs across some at a store, please let me know. and we will figure out a way to get them to me. I want to buy a few cases and I am in desperate need of protein that is easily microwaved.

I,too, have officially begun looking for the Bageldog, been casually looking-no luck so I am stepping up my efforts. I am east-side Washington, Spokane and would find them in C-stores everywhere. I was able to buy them from a big store once or twice, but no more. With both of us looking would this qualify as a quest?

I'll let you know if I find anything. I recently had a pretzel dog, but it really isn't the same thing. If I remember, I will try to call 21st Century Foods (makers of Dr. Stein's Bagel Dogs) on Monday. They haven't answered my emails, but they haven't bounced either.

Today I found a Johnsonville product, a" Smoked Brat in a soft baked roll " obviously an attempt to avoid copyright infringement. While it was fair to good, it was no bageldog. Not near the flavor. I found it at a local Chevron convenience store. The owner remembers the bageldog and is going to check with Food Service America, their supplier, on tuesday and I am going back to talk to her. As F.S.A. is at least a regional supplier if they have it all you have to do is to get a local merchant to order it! We have a U.R.M. cash and carry here(their retail outlet) and I am going to check with them to see if they carry F.S.A., or if F.S.A. has a similar outlet.
Anyway I will be back in touch, let you know....
By the way the product code for the Johnsonville product is 7778202058...
Good hunting, catch you soon, my e-mail is alex.wlkr@yahoo.com

Larry, most recent bageldog adventure- I have tried Hillshire Farms "deli-bakes, bagel cheddarwurst" it's close, made of real bagel dough (as opposed to the johnsonville product found earlier), has poppyseeds on top and sausage is pretty good.
There is one more contender I have not had before, so-far I can only find it in case. 14 dogs, $25....
not ready to feed 13 dogs to MY dogs if they prove inedible!!
I will update soon, sorry to hear of the latest bullshit you are going through.

The only place that I have found bagel dogs is on Schwans.com. They are not Dr Steins but they are equal pretty much, they even have the same poppy seed flavored bagel. If you find anything out about Dr steins please let me know bro!
